Salvia 'Shangri-La'

Lovely, big glaucus foliage forms at the base of this handsome plant. High above are strong stems of lavender blue flowers proliferate for many months through spring and summer. An easy, showy, dry, cold and heat tolerant plant for the landscape. The bees and other friendly pollinators will love it too.

Salvias are one of the best garden plants around. They grow in a wide range of conditions and last for an age. Salvia ‘Shangri-La’ is sensational in mass plantings, as a low, informal hedge, as part of a border, in cottage gardens or xeriscapes.

Grow Salvia ‘Shangri-La’ in a sunny, well drained location, it is very adaptable. Salvias are impressively dry tolerant once established. They have a vigorous growth and are easy care.

Dead head spent flowers after the first flush to encourage even more and extend the season (around May to August). After flowering has finished, cut the stems back once more to allow the large foliage to shine.

Salvia ‘Shangri-La’ is a cross of S. indica (two lipped spotted sage) from Western Asia and S. moorcroftiana from the high altitudes Pakistan to Nepal – both from areas of very poor soils. They can set seed but by no means are invasive and will flower in their second year. It was discovered as a chance seedling.
