Species Tulip 'Red Hunter'
Brilliant, and we mean brilliant, scarlet-red flowers with a black heart. The narrow, grey-green foliage is fairly upright and grows to around 20cm which is just below the height of the flowers.
Tulipa ‘Red Hunter’ holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit for strong garden performance, this is one of the highest accolades a plant can have.
T. ‘Red Hunter’ is commonly known as Wisley Tulip and may also be known as T. batalinii or sometimes referred to as Tulipa linifolia Batalinii Group.
Species Tulips have a more relaxed or whimsical feel than the common hybridized varieties. And are ideal for rock gardens, lawn plantings, pots or towards the front of a border.
If planted in a well drained soil, in a spot that does not get too hot or wet over summer then the bulbs can be left in the ground for many years where they will gradually multiply. Hailing from mountains of Central Asia, they love cold winters and hot, dry summers and don’t mind poor soils.
