Winter Rose Corsican Hellebore

Masses of green and white flowers open high above the handsome, leathery foliage. The flower colour is pretty and variable and up to 20 can crowd the large cymes. The dark green, spiny leaves are a feature in themselves and can grow up to 23cm long and have a paler reverse. The leaves give rise to another common name for this plant, Holly-leaved Hellebore.

It is more than twice the size of common Winter Roses, at up to 120cm, so can be used in a great variety of garden situations, especially as it grows in both sun and shade.

This hardy choice will set seed, so you can easily move them to where they are needed or share them with friends and family.

Winter Roses are both low maintenance and really hardy. They are useful for growing in hard to fill shaded areas such as beneath deciduous trees. It is best to ensure they are planted in a part shade or morning sun position for optimal results. In heavy shade they will still grow but not flower as well as they could. This species will take full sun if they are watered.

They can also be grown in pots, working well with a combination of other plants.

Plant in well drained, humus rich soil, water to establish, then keep moist when in flower, the plants become dry tolerant as they settle in.
