- Plant Type
- Tuberous perennial
- Size (HxW)
- 5-30cm x 10-35cm
- Depth & Spacing
- Best planted in a container. Plant at the same level as it is in the pot with the caudex above the soil. They will grow just over 20cm across but are slow growing and will live for 30 or more years if cared for.
- Soil
- Use an African violet, or succulent potting mix.
- Aspect
- Outdoors, full sun to semi shade. Bright light indoors.
- Climate
- Cool to Sub Tropical
- Frost
- Tender
- Water
- Water in when planting. Let the soil almost dry out before watering again in winter. Water regularly in summer. If you see the foliage sagging it is a sign it needs water.
- Fertiliser
- Diluted potash every other week during active growth.
- Flowering Time
- Spring to winter. Flowers will increase as the plant matures.
- After Flower Care
- Remove spent flowers to tidy. Encourage nice new growth by removing old growth late winter.
- Notes
- When the stems are shooting in spring, you can remove ‘extras’ leaving one to three stems to mature, this will produce better flowers and stronger stems – if you are thrifty, you can use these leaves as cuttings (first remove the hairs).
