Chatham Islands Forget-Me-Not

Botanical: Myosotidium hortensia
Plant Type: Evergreen perennial
Size (HxW): 60cm x 60cm
Depth & Spacing: Plant at the same level as in the pots with roots spread below soil surface. Space 60cm apart.
Soil: Moderately fertile, sharply drained soil. They like a bit of leaf mulch annually.
Aspect: Semi to full shade or filtered light.
Climate: Cool to Temperate
Frost: Half hardy, keep protected from frost while establishing.
Water: Keep moist at all times – they don’t like to compete for water. Mulching will help with water retention.
Fertiliser: Apply a well-balanced slow release fertiliser in winter or use a fish/ seaweed based fertiliser in spring and autumn. A winter mulch is also good practice.
Flowering Time: Spring to summer
After Flower Care: Trim off any spent flowers and dying leaves.
Notes: Keep protected from hot sun and drying winds. They will self-seed once established but are not invasive. They are native to New Zealand’s Chatham Islands where they thrive in beach soils. They will grow well in coastal conditions. Slugs and snails find the foliage delicious so be sure to take precautions.
