Glory of the Sun

Botanical Name: Leucocoryne ixioides

Plant Type: Bulb
Size (HxW): 20-45cm x 10cm
Depth & Spacing: Plant 10cm deep and 10cm apart.
Soil: Moderately fertile, well drained soil, not too fussy.
Aspect: Full Sun – they like it hot.
Climate: Cool to Mediterranean
Frost: Half hardy. In areas with hard frosts it is best to mulch to help protect them over winter, or plant in pots.
Water: Water in, keep moist in growth and keep relatively dry in dormancy. Dry tolerant once established.
Fertiliser: For best flowers, fertilise Glory of the Sun monthly with a liquid fertiliser when in growth. Alternatively add a good dose of slow release fertiliser at the start of the season.
Flowering Time: Late winter to early spring
After Flower Care: Remove spent flowers and foliage to tidy.
Notes: They grow through winter, emerging in autumn with flowers August/September, becoming dormant early summer. Leave the bulbs in the ground to naturalise, they will multiply at a moderate rate. You will only need to dig and divide every 3-4 years as they become overcrowded. Plant in rockeries, pots or the front of garden beds.
