Botanical: Helenium hybrids
Plant Type: Herbaceous
Size (HxW): ‘Rubinzwerg’: 60-80cm x 30-60cm. ‘Riverton Beauty’: 90-130cm x 60cm
Depth & Spacing: Plant at the same level as in the pot, with the roots spread evenly below the soil. See above for spacing.
Soil: Humus rich, moist, well drained soil is ideal.
Aspect: Full sun to light shade
Climate: Cool to Mediterranean
Frost: Hardy
Water: Water to establish, then keep moist in active growth. Adding a layer of mulch after fertilising will help with water retention.
Fertiliser: Be careful not to over- fertilise, as this will lead to leggy plants with reduced flowers and excess foliage. A light application of a well balanced, slow release fertiliser applied in early summer is all they need.
Flowering Time: Summer to autumn
After Flower Care: Dead head regularly to promote more blooms. Once blooming has finished the flower seed heads can be left as a feature into winter, and cut back in spring before the new shoots form. Or you can cut them back early winter.
Notes: Divide after 3-4 years to maintain a vigorous healthy plant. People with sensitive skin may have a reaction to the foliage, use gloves when handling.
