- Plant at the same level as in the pot, space 30-100cm apart dependingon how you are growing them, you will need to supply them with something to grow up, an obelisk, trellis, shrub or support. They can reach up to 3m, so a decent sized pot with an obelisk is required. Hanging baskets are suitable too.
- Soil
- Humus rich, moist, well drained soil is ideal, but they are quite forgiving.
- Aspect
- Bright Filtered Light or Full Sun to Semi Shade, protect from the hot afternoon sun, needs around four to six hours a day to flower well. Protect from drying winds.
- Climate
- Cool to Sub Tropical. In cool climates they will need some protection.
- Frost
- Half hardy to 0C, in cold climates can be grown and protected in pots, or in most cases a layer of mulch, hard frost is a different story and they may need to be treated as annuals if grown in the ground.
- Water
- Water to establish (this takes around 4-6 weeks of regular watering), then you only need worry if rainfall is low in active growth.
- Fertiliser
- Add a little well balanced fertiliser early spring with the new growth. Adding some mulch in summer will help to retain moisture and keep the roots cool.

- After Flower Care
- After the flowers are pollinated, the dark purple corolla falls and the seed will mature for collection. Sow into pots just below the surface, under cover late winter/early spring, gradually moving plants outdoors and planting out after frost.
- Notes
- Winter dormant. In frost prone areas, wait until the threat of frost has past before planting out. You can pick stems for cut flower arrangements. Cut back in winter to tidy.
