Seaholly 'Tetra Petra'

Botanical Name: Eryngium planum
Plant Type: Evergreen perennial
Size (HxW): ‘Silver Salentino’: 40-90cm x 30-50cm. ‘Tetra Petra’: 30-70cm x 30-45cm
Depth & Spacing: Plant at the same level as in the pot with the roots spread below soil surface, space 30-50cm apart.
Soil: Moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. They are tolerant of excessive lime, acid, gravel and poor soils but won’t tolerate wet boggy sites.
Aspect: Full sun to light shade – you need a good dose of sun for the best colouring.
Climate: Cool to Mediterranean
Frost: Hardy
Water: Water to establish, this takes 4-6 weeks of regular watering, then only if rainfall is low.
Fertiliser: A light application of a well balanced fertiliser early spring, they aren’t heavy feeders and too much can result in lanky plants.
Flowering Time: Late spring to late autumn
After Flower Care: Remove spent flowers to encourage more, they stand for a long time.
Notes: Cut back hard if foliage becomes untidy in winter/early spring. Good cut flowers and suitable blooms for drying. Seed can be collected for sowing.
