Botanical Name: Verbena x hybrida
Family: Verbenaceae
Plant Type: Semi Evergreen Perennial
Size (HxW): ‘Wicked’: 20-30cm x 40-50cm. ‘Candy Cane’: 15-25cm x 30-50cm.
Depth & Spacing: Plant at the same level as in the pot with roots below soil surface. Plant 30-45cm apart.
Soil: Moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. Verbenas are tolerant of poor soils.
Aspect: Full Sun to Semi Shade
Climate: Cool to Sub Tropical
Frost: Half hardy
Water: Water to establish (this takes around four weeks and plants should be watered very regularly in the meantime) then only if rainfall is low. Best watered at the base of the plant rather than on the leaves. In pots allow the potting mix to almost dry out before watering again.
Fertiliser: Apply a well-balanced fertiliser in spring, then some mulch.
Flowering Time: Late spring to autumn.
After Flower Care: Remove spent flowers as required to encourage more blooms. Cut back in late winter/early spring to allow the new growth to shine.
Notes: Good in landscapes and containers. The flowers last well in a vase. A nice ground cover where they will grow to form a low growing mat of flowers.
