Glorious plumes of fragrant, rosy pink, fuzzy flowers put on a stunning show through summer. The blooms open with a laid back romantic flair. The flowers can be picked and even dried. Filipendula 'Nana' is a dwarf form from the mountains of Japan.
As the name, the leaves are palmate, or palm/hand shaped. They are big, to 20cm and deeply divided and fern like. The lobed leaflets are 8-15cm across.
Also known as Siberian Meadowsweet 'Nana', it grows well in boggy soils. They are perfect for those hard to plant out areas beside ponds and low lying areas of the garden. They will grow well in normal beds in sun, but need to be kept moist to avoid leaf burn.
A woodland plant, Siberian Meadowsweet prefers a humus rich soil and thrives with generous helpings of compost. Don't expect too much in the first, year, it is in the second and subsequent years that this plant will really impress you. More flowers and more vigorous growth comes in time and soon you will wonder how you did without it.
Filipendula is also known as Queen of the Prairies. It is similar to the old favourite Astilbe.
