Astilbe Purple Candle
A humdinger.
This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

The impressive, tall, deep purple plumes stun from mid summer. The flowers open on well branched, strong stems over a metre tall. This is the perfect plant to brighten a shady spot or moist area of the garden. Astilbe ‘Purple Candles’ is relatively dry tolerant, and flowers later in the season.
Astilbes thrive in moist soils and will grow to form nice clumps of handsome, fern like foliage and look wonderful in a woodland garden or shady border.
The flowers of Astilbe can be picked for vases where they will last well. You can even dry the flowers. In early autumn, once the flowers have turned bronze, you can either remove them or leave them on as the seed heads have nice autumn/winter ornamental value.
Astilbe grow best in part shade to morning sun positions, or filtered light – think Hostas and ferns. The warmer your climate, the more shade they will take. They will grow in full shade but won’t flower their best. In sunny positions you will need to ensure they have adequate moisture or they tend to become straggly.
Plant Astilbe into a humus rich, moist soil, an acid PH is preferred but not demanded. Water in your Astilbe and keep them moist in active growth. You could add a little mulch in summer to help retain moisture around the roots.
