A gorgeous selection that is a little more restrained than the standard Boston Ivy. It is self clinging and will grow to cover what they are given then stay, in a well behaved manner. Best suited in smaller areas and gardens.
Boston Ivy ‘Lowii’ has smaller leaves than the common form and they have a little crinkle to them which adds a lovely texture to their growth. The leaves turn a brilliant crimson in autumn.
It gradually grows to fill its space. The leaves are made up of three, pointed leaflets, hence the botanical name ‘tricuspidata’ meaning three pointed. Parthenocissus is formed from two Greek words, parthenos – virgin and kissos – ivy.
Plant into moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. They grow in either sun or shade – though you will get the best autumn colour in sun and become dry tolerant as they establish. As far as I’m concerned mine can ramble where it likes, but if you are fussy about paint then you should know they will mark it.
