Enjoy an almost continuous display of double red and pink, perfumed flowers.
The Dianthus Scent from Heaven series is made up of top-notch new varieties with plenty of flower power. An abundance of perfumed, single and semi double flowers crowd the compact, mounding, evergreen, silver foliage for many months. The flowers are weatherproof and the plant has excellent disease resistance. Quick to establish with vigorous growth it is an asset in the garden or a pot.
Dianthus Scent from Heaven were developed in New Zealand by Dr Keith Hammet, they are a revolution in realm of the old fashioned pinks. The fragrance is rich and sweet with notes of cloves and spice. They will flower almost year round. In cold climates they will slow right down over the cool months and you will have a tidy clump of narrow, soft foliage.
Dianthus grow best in moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. They thrive in full sun, though, in warmer climates it is a good idea to protect them from the hot afternoon rays. Water in well, then once established they become dry tolerant. Tolerant of a huge temperature range, from -20 to the high 30’s. Don’t allow them to be too wet over winter.
The regular cutting of flowers promotes healthy growth and encourage more booms. You should add some fertiliser during the flowering season for best blooms.
The botanical name Dianthus is from the Greek; Dios for god and anthos for flower: God’s Flower.
