Big and bold chocolate and red foliage for a bit of wow.
Thrillingly deep purple and green foliage for a moist, shaded spot in the garden. The leaves are around 15-20cm across. Rarely seen, these plants are fantastic in the garden. While they hold their colour well, the top of the leaves will take on green tones as the season progresses.
The tall flower stems emerge in summer bearing bright, yellow daisy like flowers summer to autumn. The flowers open on branched stems, each bloom stretches up to 7cm across. They make great additions to the vase, as do the leaves.
Ligularia ‘Britt Marie Crawford’ holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit so you know it has been put through its paces. Ligualaria is commonly known as Leopard Plant. It was discovered by the namesake Britt Marie as a sport growing amongst her L. ‘Othello’.
Grow in moderately fertile to humus rich soil. Best grown in a morning sun position, think hostas and ferns. Full sun is ok if you are growing it beside a pond or similar. Moist soils are not a problem for these easy going plants, who thrive beside streams and ponds or bog gardens. They will also grow in any garden bed as long as they have sufficient moisture.
In warm weather they may sulk after a hot day, but add water, then the cool night air will have them perky again in no time.
