A dainty rarity with abundant, single purple blooms with a heart swelling perfume.
Parma Violet ‘Single Purple’ is perfect for creating fragrant little posies. They are perfect for tough to fill spots such as along fence lines, under trees, between pathways or under eaves.
Parma Violet blooms can begin as early as late winter and last right through to spring. Dead head the flowers regularly to help sustain the plant.
Parma Violets foliage is mid to bright green, heart shaped foliage that forms neat, evergreen clumps. They are also known as Sweet Violets, Sweet Pansies, Wood Violets, Sweet Viola, Florists Violet, Garden Violet and English Violets (no wonder botanical names are important).
Plant Parma Violets in a part shade position in humus rich, moist, well drained soil. They can tolerate more sun but you have to keep the moisture up. They will not put up with humidity. Protect your plants from slugs and snails, especially whilst young. They are suitable for growing in containers and hanging baskets.
Fertilise Parma Violets regularly to keep them blooming at their best. They spread through underground runners/stolons at a moderate pace, so there will be more to enjoy but they won’t become a burden. Prune and divide in autumn as required.
