An impressive, exotic landscape plant with fine, lush foliage and masses of pink buds unfurl to large, white umbels. The blooms sit proud of the foliage and last an age and are perfect for picking. This rarity is sure to impress and become a conversation starter in the garden and the envy of fellow gardeners.
The trunk is almost palm like, supporting the gorgeous foliage and flowers.
Beneficial birds and insects love Melanoselinum decipiens too. It is a monocarpic perennial, so will die after flowering, but produces seed that can be collected or left to self sow and before long you will have a good number of seedlings to increase stock or share with family and friends. The seedlings will take two years to reach flowering size, but in the meantime you can enjoy the wonderful foliage and anticipate the next big show. Once you have a few, maintain them at different stages so you can enjoy flowers every year.
Plant in moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. Water well to establish, it takes plant roots 4-6 weeks to penetrate the surrounding soil and gain access to its moisture and nutrients. Dry tolerant once established. Good drainage is important. Ideal in full sun to light shade. Frost hardy.
Melanoselinum decipiens is commonly known as Black Parsley or Giant Madeira, or both combined, Giant Madeira Black Parsley. It is native to the Portuguese island of Madeira.
