Deep red double ready to draw the eye. Grandalia Dahlias are generous, compact plants that boast an exceptionally long flowering time with big colourful blooms. They are uniform with serried, short, strong stems that proudly hold the blooms aloft from around November to May. Good garden performers or useful as portable colour in 15-20cm containers.

Pollinators love the flowers, though there are more than enough to share, and even bring indoors for a vase. Try them en masse, as border fillers, colourful accents or in containers. You can relax, there is no staking needed for these beauties. 20-30cm pots are ideal.

Our Tip: remove spent flowers regularly over the growing season to encourage even more to bloom. The spent flowers are pointed where the buds are rounded.

They have been planted earlier than traditional Dahlias, so will flower earlier this season. The following seasons will be a little later. The tubers will appear small, but so are the plants, they aren’t as big as regular garden Dahlias.

Plant Dahlias into moist, humus rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot, they need at least six hours of sun to flower well – morning sun is ideal as the hot afternoon sun can scorch the leaves. If you have the time, we recommend digging a well rotted cow/sheep manure though the soil prior to planting. They are already up and growing, so water well, ensuring they have adequate drainage. They tend to grow larger in the garden than they will in pots, where their growth can be restricted.

They are half frost sensitive so should be treated with care in cold climates with hard frosts where you might see some foliage die back initially, they will bounce back when the weather warms. In these areas ideally hold off on planting them outdoors until after the threat of frost has passed.
