The pale to deep pink floral racemes open winter to spring. As the tubular flowers open they become pendant, forming a neat, conical bloom. The flower stems are mottled maroon and green and stretch to 60cm.

Forest Lily or Veltheimia bracteata flowers is a South African native and the flowers last 3-4 weeks.

The foliage of Forest Lily are strap like with wavy edges and encircle the flower stem. The leaves are lush and glossy. Veltheimia bracteata is semi evergreen and will retain foliage year round in warmer climates. Summer dormant elsewhere.

Plant Forest Lily in part shade, as you would grow Clivea. Veltheimia bracteata favour humus rich, moist, well drained soil. The bulbs are best left to naturalise where they will gradually form clumps. Add a slow release fertiliser each spring to keep them blooming. Protect the foliage of Forest Lily from slugs and snails.

Forest Lilies are suitable for large container plantings. You can even grow them as a house plant in bright light.
