A beautiful evergreen shrub which produces an impressive floral display. The sweet, spicy fragrance is a cross between musk and jasmine. The perfume emanates from the delicate flowers is unforgettable and can be smelt from many metres away. The flowers are 2.5-4cm long and open in groups 10-20cm across.
'Gratissima' translates from Latin to 'very, very pleasing' which is very true of this variety.
The leaves are mid to dark green and grow 10-20cm long, they have a soft fuzzy underside. New stems have a red blush.
Grow Luculia as a shrub or small tree. Use as a specimen or as part of a border. Plant in well drained, humus rich, moist, well drained soil, acid PH preferred. Place in a full sun to semi shade position. Keep moist in the dry, hot summer. Grows well where Rhododendrons and Camellias do.
