A rare, ornamental shrub with evergreen, holly like foliage.
Vibrant, orange red blooms tipped in golden yellow. Each bloom is around 4cm long. The blooms decorate the shrub for months.
The leaves are leathery, deep green with sharp points, like holly. Even without blooms they make both a handsome feature in the garden or in a cut flower arrangement. The branches have an upright structure with a dense foliage coverage.
Water well to establish. They will tolerate some dry once established but should be kept moist when in flower. Plant in a sunny to semi shade position with protection from hot afternoon sun. Ideally have the roots in a shaded position. Plant into moist, humus rich soil, acid PH preferred.
Native to the Andes in Chile, where it is known locally as Taique.
