The flowers of ‘Gloire de Versailles’ are soft, lavender blue and open in sizable racemes (around 10-15cm) from the middle of summer right into autumn. The blooms have a soft fragrance.

‘Gloire de Versailles’ has received the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit. It is quick to grow and establish. The new leaves are light green, aging to mid green. The foliage is dense.
Extremely dry tolerant once established. Ceanothus is virtually maintenance free, they are great flowering shrubs for a dry garden or tough spot. A light prune in spring will keep them blooming at their best.
‘Gloire de Versailles' will grow well in poor soils and in a sunny position. Water to establish then only if rainfall is low. They don’t like wet feet so drip irrigation is not recommended unless the soil is sharply drained. They are endemic to drought conditions so reduce watering late summer into autumn so it has no new growth going into winter where it could be damaged.
