Monarda ‘Mohawk’ has excellent mildew resistance. The shaggy lilac to purple blooms en masse are a sight to behold. They open in profusion summer to autumn and are attractive to birds, butterflies and bees.
Monarda leaves are mid to bright green and have a delicious mint fragrance. They are used medicinally and in teas. Monarda is known commonly as Beebalm.
This cultivar has good mildew resistance. For best results grow Monarda in moist, humus rich soils in a sunny position. Keep it moist in active growth and dead head flowers regularly to extend the bloom season. A good plant for the back of borders, though you should allow air to flow around the plant to avoid the chance of mildew. Cut back spent flowers and foliage to tidy. Alternatively you can leave the upright stems on display through winter.
