Gleditsia Honey Locust
Ornamental and tough as old boots.
This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

A good choice for an easy going, medium sized shade tree. The pretty, bright green, airy foliage allows grass to growth beneath it.
The beautiful, green frond like leaves of Honey Locust turn a gorgeous, butter yellow in autumn.
In spring, green flowers bloom, though they are insignificant, it is the twisted, glossy green seedpods in autumn that are showy. The decorative pods age from green to brown. It is from these seed pods that the tree gets its common name. When snapped open, they have a sticky, honey like substance inside.
The trunks of most Honey Locust have spines, this variety has only a few, but these can be easily cut off. The benefit of it being a thorny variety is that it gets the ornamental pods which generally don't occur in the thornless varieties.
Plant in moderately fertile to humus rich soils. Tolerant of street planting and positions with high pollution. A moderate growth rate. Will reach its full height in around 10-15 years.
