The flowers open in mauve to pink tones that gradually fade to white with age. The flowers open in loose clusters. Individual blooms are tubular, with hairy stamens.
The foliage is mid to deep green. New leaves have a white, spotted pattern, like water spots, from which their common name is derived; Virginia Waterleaf. These spots fade to green as they mature.
Virginia Waterleaf is a woodland plant that will spread through underground rhizomes. It is a good choice for a ground cover in shaded areas and will cope in boggy soils.
Plant into moderately fertile to humus rich, moist soil. Choose a part shade to bright light position. Water to establish and keep moist in active growth.
