Dowdeswell Delphiniums are the best Delphiniums around. The strong stems are loaded with stunning flowers. The stems are strong, tall and vigorous. The flowers open freely and come in a variety of dazzling colours. When you see a Dowdeswell Delphinium in full flowering glory you will almost certainly fall in love. A more heat tolerant Delphinium variety, Dowdeswell Delphiniums are New Zealand bred and cope well with Australian conditions.

Plant Dowdeswell Delphiniums in full sun to light shade. Ensure you allow good air flower between plants. Dowdeswell Delphiniums need a cool to temperate climate to grow and perform at their best. Protect from strong winds. Provide staking for the flower stems, a bit of extra work, but like the old saying goes, beauty is pain! And these plants are definitely beautiful.

Grow Dowdeswell Delphiniums in a humus rich, moist, well drained soil. To flower at their best they need to be fertilised well. A well rotted sheep manure and some mulch is recommended. Dowdeswell Delphiniums do not like to sit in water and good drainage is vital. Water in well, then keep moist during active growth. Once the flower stem has finished, cut it back to just above the ground. You should have a second flush in autumn. Add fertiliser when you see the new growth. Protect Dowdeswell Delphiniums from slugs and snails, especially while young, they find them delicious. Also keep an eye out for powdery mildew and treat with your choice of fungicide.
