Red Gauntlet' has a long lasting fruiting season and large fruit. It is a Scottish variety that is well suited to cool and cold climates. 'Red Gauntlet' is often used as a commercial variety because of it's heavy cropping and robust plants. Excellent disease resistance. The flavour is quite tart and has a beautiful aroma.
The taste of home grown strawberries is so much sweeter than the ones from the supermarket, they are simply irresistible. Strawberries are easy and rewarding to grow.
Strawberries should be planted in to prepared soil. We recommend digging through some mulch and or well rotted manure prior to planting.
Strawberries flourish in well drained, fertile soils and need at least six hours sun a day to fruit well. It is a good idea to mulch your Strawberries to keep the area free of weeds and lock in the moisture. You should also protect your Strawberries from slugs, snails and birds.
Strawberries grow well in pots, vegetable gardens or ornamental beds.
