Recurved, mahogany red petals with golden highlights. Martagon Lily 'Claude Shride' was bred in the 1970's, and is an old favourite.
Martagon Lilies have a delicate, old world charm with a practical, easy grow nature. Up to 50 flowers can open on one stem! The better established your bulbs, the more flowers they will bear. The pendent blooms are also known as Turkscap Lilies. Each flower is around 5cm across.
Martagon Lilies produce many flowers and bloom for a long period. The blooms start opening from mid to late December, perfect timing for Christmas! The strong, green stems have a deep purple flush. The foliage is deep green and grows to 16cm.
Martagon Lilies are a cinch to grow. Plant in a well drained soil in a morning sun, or lightly shaded position. As woodland plants they grow best in dappled light. They don't like to be disturbed, so allow a season for them to settle in and flower at their best. Martagon are hardy Lilies that will settle in and gradually increase to form a clump. Water to establish and keep moist during active growth.
