A top choice for dry shade and well worth snapping up as it is rarely on offer. Grown in all the great gardens of the UK, it is stunning en masse. There’s nothing to do but plant and enjoy this low maintenance treasure.

Euphorbia amygdaloides var. robbiae holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit so you can be assured it grows with ease and looks good while doing so.

Evergreen rosettes of glossy, deep green leaves look good year round, from late winter, billows of lime green flowers unfurl and last into autumn. The flowers are adored by friendly pollinators. It even grows in poor soils and can smother weeds with ease. The leaves blush red with a touch of frost. Flowers suitable for picking.

Named for plant explorer Mrs Robb, who ‘discovered’ it in Turkiye and bought it back to England in her hat box, hence the common term ‘Mrs Robb’s Bonnet’.

Euphorbia amygdaloides var. robbiae thrives and looks wonderful in coastal areas, Mediterranean gardens, pots, beds, shrub border, fence lines or xeriscapes. It also grows well in containers

Euphorbia amygdaloides var. robbiae is easy care, even in poor soils as long as it has good drainage. They are tolerant of coastal conditions and become dry tolerant as they establish. A light sprinkling of an all purpose fertiliser in spring is pretty much all they need to be happy. It will be larger in the garden than if it is grown in a pot where it will be more compact. Can spread underground with runners/rhizomes in ideal conditions. Will grow in full sun but may run away from you, the shade will keep it in check.

Cut spent flower stems back to the base of the plant if they don’t please you – don’t forget to wear gloves as the sap irritates the skin as it does with all Euphorbias.
