A garden 'star' with massive flowering potential. With six to twenty glowing white flowers on each stem, they are blooming marvellous! What's more, they are low maintenance bulbs!
Ornithogalum 'Star of Bethlehem' grows well in pots and of course in the garden. Try planting them at the base of deciduous trees, in borders or rockeries. The foliage is long and strappy, it is a bit lazy so tends to arch and then lay on the ground.
`Star of Bethlehem` is a good bulb for naturalising and it will gradually form clumps. Plant in full sun to part shade in a well drained soil. Plant 10cm deep and 10cm apart. Water in to establish and then only if rainfall is low during growth, they become dry tolerant as they mature.
This 'star' goes by many other names, these include, Summer Snowflake, Starflower, Sleepydick, Grass Lily, Birds Milk, and Pyrenees Star of Bethlehem.
