Japanese Hornbeam
Small and elegant.
This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

A broadly spreading, graceful tree. The dark green leaves are glossy and have deep veins, they are handsome through growth and yellow in autumn. A slow growing tree with grey, fluted bark.
Summer to autumn Japanese Hornbeam has big green fruiting catkins, that look a bit like hops and turn golden brown as they mature.
Grow Japanese Hornbeam in moderately fertile to humus rich soils with good drainage. Grow well in full sun to light shade. They are understory trees so don't mind a bit of shade, because of this it is probably best to keep them out of hot afternoon sun.
Japanese Hornbeam is suitable for urban plantings, and the leaf structure can be pruned so grass can grow below.
