- Water
- Water to establish (plants will take around four weeks for their roots to penetrate the surrounding soils), and keep moist during growth. With moisture they will flower and thrive, and win a place in your heart forever, without it they won’t flower well. If left to sit in wet soil over winter they tend to rot.
- Fertiliser
- Apply a well balanced fertiliser in spring with the emergence of new foliage.
- Flowering Time
- ‘Dahurica’: Spring to summer. Rubiflora: Summer to autumn.
- After Flower Care
- Deadhead regularly to encourage more blooms OR, as the flowers wane, you can cut the stems right back, add some fertiliser then water in, you should have a second flush in just a few weeks. Once flowering is finished cut back to encourage compact growth.
- Notes
- Will gradually increase through underground rhizomes, dig and divide every 3-5 years in spring/autumn to maintain vigour. It is a good idea to protect plants from slugs and snails, the good news is they are rabbit resistant. Ensure good air flow between plants to avoid powdery mildew. Suitable in pots as long as you keep the water up.
