Cautleya Flowering Roscoea

Botanical Name: Roscoea cautleyoides, R. scillifolia.
Family: Zingiberaceae
Plant Type: Tuberous perennials
Size (HxW): 15-55cm x 15-40cm
Depth & Spacing: Plant tubers 15cm deep. Growing plants should be at the same level as in the pot. Space 15-30cm apart, closer for a more immediate effect.
Soil: Moderately fertile to humus rich, moist, well drained soil is ideal. They can rot in boggy soils over winter so drainage is ideal. As woodland plants they adore leaf matter and compost.
Aspect: Filtered Light, semi shade or morning sun, keep them out of the hot afternoon rays.
Climate: Cool to Mediterranean
Frost: Fully hardy. If you receive hard frost/snow on the ground, a winter mulch is recommended.
Water: Water to establish, this takes 4-6wks of regular watering, then only if rainfall is low.
Fertiliser: A light application of a general purpose fertiliser spring/summer, they aren’t heavy feeders but appreciate a nice compost or leaf matter.
Flowering Time: Late spring to autumn depending on your climate.
After Flower Care: Remove spent flowers and foliage to tidy. They will die down naturally.
Notes: Divide in spring as required. Protect new growth from slugs and snails. If potting choose a 20cm or more, deep container.
