- Botanical Name
- Azorella pedunculata (syn. Bolax pedunculatus)
- Family
- Apiaceae
- Plant Type
- Evergreen cushion forming perennial
- Size (HxW)
- 5-10cm x 30-60cm, spreading slowly over time
- Depth & Spacing
- Plant at the same level as in the pot, taking care not to bury the crown. Space 30-40cm apart.
- Soil
- Gritty, very free draining soil of low to moderate fertility. Add grit or scoria to heavier soils.
- Aspect
- Full sun to part shade, with afternoon shade in warmer areas.
- Climate
- Cool. Originating from high altitude grasslands in the Andes, it dislikes heat and humidity.
- Frost
- Hardy
- Water
- Keep evenly moist through the warmer months while establishing, but never waterlogged, especially over winter.
- Fertiliser
- Minimal. A light application of slow release fertiliser in spring if your soil is poor.
- Flowering Time
- Late spring to summer, with small white to creamy flowers held among the foliage
- After Flower Care
- None needed. Spent flowers can be trimmed away to keep the cushion neat.
- Notes
- Ideal for rockeries, troughs, pots and the gaps between pavers, though it won’t tolerate regular foot traffic. Patches of browning are usually caused by wet roots or hot, humid conditions. A gravel mulch around the crown helps keep it dry.
