Botanical Name: Daphne odoroa
Family: Thymelaeaceae
Plant Type: Evergreen perennial
Size (HxW): 90-120cm x 70-120cm
Depth & Spacing: Plant at the same level as in the pot. Be gentle with the root system as it is sensitive. Space 80-100cm apart (remember they are slow growing so closer for a more immediate effect).
Soil: Well drained, humus rich soil is ideal, they like their roots kept cool. If they are left to sit in water, they will soon rot.
Aspect: Full sun to part shade. Morning sun\ is best; they need shelter from afternoon sun.
Climate: Cool to Mediterranean
Frost: Hardy
Water: Water to establish, it will take around four weeks for the roots to penetrate the surrounding soil, then water as the plant dries out, especially if in a pot. Over watering can cause the roots to rot, an indication of over watering is leathery, limp leaves.
Fertiliser: A well balanced fertiliser in winter.
Flowering Time: Winter to spring
After Flower Care: Not really required, you can remove any unwanted branches after flowering.
Notes: In an exposed position, to help keep their roots cool, it is a good idea to mulch for summer. Suitable for pots; choose a good quality potting mix to ensure good drainage, add a little organic fertiliser.
