Deschampsia Tufted Hair Grass

Botanical Name: Deschamspia cespitosa
Family: Poaceae
Plant Type: Evergreen perennial
Size (HxW): 60-100 x 30-60cm
Depth & Spacing: Plant at the same level as in the pot with roots spread evenly below soil surface. Plant 100-150cm apart.
Soil: Moderately fertile to humus rich soil. Adapts to most conditions though.
Aspect: Full sun to semi shade.
Climate: Cool to Sub Tropical
Frost: Hardy
Water: Water in. It takes 4-6 wks for their roots to access to the moisture in the surrounding soil, so they need regular watering initially. They become dry tolerant as they establish.
Fertiliser: They are not heavy feeders, a light application in poor soils only.
Flowering Time: Summer to autumn.
After Flower Care: Cut back early spring to allow new growth to shine. Flower heads can remain handsome through winter.
Notes: Useful for adding structure and stature. More flowers in a sunny spot but is one of just a few grasses that will tolerate some shade.
