Sparaxis Mixed

Botanical Name
Sparaxis tricolour
Family
Iridaceae
Plant Type
Corm
Size (HxW)
15-40cm x 10cm
Depth & Spacing
Plant 4-5cm deep & space 6-10cm apart. They look best when grouped together.
Soil
Moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil, but they are not too fussy.
Aspect
Full sun to semi shade
Climate
Cool to Mediterranean. They thrive with hot summers and wet winters.
Frost
Half hardy, late frosts may damage new growth.
Water
Water in to establish, then only if rainfall is low during active growth. Keep relatively dry during dormancy.
Fertiliser
We recommend applying a well balanced fertiliser each spring or autumn - as the bulbs are coming or going.
Flowering Time
Mid to late spring
After Flower Care
Cut back any untidy yellowed foliage after flowering if necessary. Sparaxis can be left undisturbed for years. If they become overcrowded (you will notice flowering declines), dig and divide in autumn, replanting at the time. Or store in a cool, dark place and replant in late autumn.
Notes
Mass plant for best results. Or you could try a lawn planting. Or mingle with ornamental grasses. They last well as cut flowers.
