Gooseberry ‘Captivator’ is a thornless variety that produces yellow/green berries that ripen to red on the plant. The fruits are lovely, plump and easy to pick. They are sweet to eat when they are red, but in our opinion are most delicious in jams (pick them when they are pink for this purpose). From established plants you can expect 1.5kg yield in a season.

Gooseberries grow best in cool to temperate climates as they need a cold winter to set fruit. While they will grow in almost any soil, a compost rich, moist, well drained soil will produce the best yields. A morning sun position is ideal. You can even grow them in pots. Gooseberry ‘Captivator’ is quite upright, but to get a good quantity of fruit they should be grown on a support.

The flowers are pink and open in spring before the summer fruit harvest, they are self fertile. The light foliage turns yellow in autumn. Gooseberry ‘Captivator’ has excellent mildew resistance, good vigour and good disease resistance.

The occasional stem of Gooseberry ‘Captivator’ may have thorns on early branches, but by the time you harvest they will have gone.

Gooseberry ‘Captivator’ grows 1m tall and wide. The flowers are pink and open in spring before the summer fruit harvest. The light foliage turns yellow in autumn.
