Soft yellow with deeper yellow sepals.
The next level up from the well known and loved Origami Aquilegia series, they will bloom earlier and for longer. These F1 hybrids have reliable and prolific blooms and even bigger (they are about double the side of a standard bloom, up to 8cm). They also need less winter chill, which is good news for those of you wishing to grow them in warmer climes. The longer stems are great for cutting.
Aquilegias are cottage garden essentials, with sweet flowers and delightfully lacy, mid green foliage. Their elegant, fern like leaves make a beautiful foil for the fading spring flowering bulbs.
Aquilegias thrive in light to moderate shade though; with sufficient moisture will tolerate full sun. They will even grow well in pots. They are best planted in moist, well drained, humus rich soil.
After the initial flowering has finished, you can cut the stems back to the basal foliage and fertilise for a second flush of flowers.
