Dalmatian Foxgloves have compact foliage with uniform branching and will flower with abundance from seed in their first year.
Foxglove blooms start to open at the bottom of the stalks and gradually move upward providing you with weeks of fantastic colour.
They are hardy, short lived that will set seed for future generations. The seedlings are easily moved and shared –offering such fantastic value! A crown will generally last two years and they will flower in their first year from early sown seed.
The large, showy plants make a striking addition to any garden. Digitalis look best grouped toward the middle or back of a bed, where their tall florets will shine. Plant into well drained soil and keep them moist in active growth.
Foxgloves grow best in cool climates and thrive in frosty locations.
The flowers of Foxgloves are produced on a tall spike and are tubular. The individual flowers are about the size and shape of a thimble. Fairies are said to have sewn gloves for foxes from their petals, hence the common name. It is also said you can leave a message for the fairies by whispering to the morning dew on the flowers.
