- Botanical Name
- Persicaria amplexicaulis
- Plant type
- Semi Evergreen Perennial
- Size (HxW)
- ‘Amethyst Summer’: 80-120cm x 60-90cm. ‘Pinkfield’: 50-80cm x 30-60cm.
- Depth & Spacing
- Plant at the same level as in the pot. See above for spacing, closer for a faster, massed effect.
- Soil
- Moderately fertile to humus rich, moist, well drained soil.
- Aspect
- Full sun to semi shade
- Climate
- Cool to Mediterranean
- Frost
- Hardy
- Water
- Water to establish then keep moist in active growth. They can handle a lot of water and will flower better with it. As they establish they become more dry tolerant but can sulk in afternoon sun if left too dry.
- Fertiliser
- Add a well balanced fertiliser in spring with the new growth, they aren’t heavy feeders.
- Flowering Time
- Summer to autumn
- After Flower Care
- Remove spent flowers and foliage to tidy. Cut back late winter/early spring to allow the new growth to shine. In areas with hard frost there could be some damage, leave the affected foliage on until the threat of frost has passed, then prune. May die back in colder climes, for us it stays evergreen.
- Notes
- Great by a pond or in a bog garden and versatile enough to grow in your ‘normal’ garden. Lovely in combination with grasses. Picks well.
