Astilbe Ellie
Brilliant in shade.
This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

Big, beautiful, white plumes tower over the lovely, soft foliage in summer. It is one of the best white Astilbes on the market, the flowers age to green rather than bronze which makes them even better.
Astilbe 'Ellie' looks amazing planted in groups in semi shade locations. The leaves are deep green with a hint of red.
Astilbes are rhizomatous perennials that are endemic to the moist soils of Japan's woodlands.
Astilbe will grow to form nice clumps of handsome, fern like, dark green foliage. They look wonderful as part of a woodland garden or shady border. If you leave the flowers on the bush, they will fade to green; you can either remove them or leave them on as they still have autumn/winter ornamental value. Cut blooms last well in a vase.
Astilbe grows best in part shade to morning sun positions. The warmer your climate, the more shade they will need. Astilbe will grow in full shade but not flower their best. In sunny positions you will need to ensure they have adequate moisture, in fact, in full sun they will grow in boggy soils.
Ideally, plant into a humus rich soil. Water in your Astilbe and keep moist in active growth. Add a little mulch in summer to help retain moisture around the roots. If they dry out they tend to become straggly.
To keep your Astilbe happy and healthy it is best to divide them every four years or so, this also means you will have extras to share around! Prune Astilbe 'Ellie' hard in early spring to allow the new season growth to shine.
