Shaggy lilac blooms. Pocket rockets, these compact plants pack a punch with their bright blooms.

The Monarda Balmy Series are shorter than most, with abundant flowers and strong mildew resistance. The flowers are beautiful in the garden and will last well in a vase. They are even good for potting.

En masse, the shaggy blooms of Monarda are a sight to behold. They open in profusion summer and the butterflies, birds and bees love these flowers almost as much as gardeners do! Each flower head is around 5cm across.

The leaves are deep green and have a delicious mint fragrance. They are used medicinally and in teas. You can even eat the flowers, and they jazz up a salad beautifully.

For best results, grow Monarda in moist, humus rich soils in a sunny position. Keep it moist in active growth and dead head flowers regularly to extend the bloom season. Mulch in summer to help with water retention. Divide as required in early spring.

Monarda are good plants for the back of borders. They are commonly known as Bergamot and Beebalm and are members of the Mint family.
