Polygonatum Red Stem
Super in shade.
This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

The fabulous red stems arch gracefully, holding aloft their white bells amid the bright green foliage. This is the perfect plant for a shady garden spot. The new stems rise in spring and last through the summer, fading in the cool autumn days. This is when the leaves turn a gorgeous golden colour before falling. The white flowers are followed by ornamental black berries (inedible).
Polygonatum ‘Red Stem’ is a shade loving plant that doesn’t mind the damp. A good partner for Dicentra, Hosta, Astilbe, Brunnera, or Trillium.
Plant in moderately fertile, to humus rich, moist soil. As they establish they will grow to form a handsome clump that will be around for years to come. Protect from slugs and snails. Water to establish then keep just moist in growth.
Solomon’s Seal are rhizomatous perennials from the woodlands of Europe and Asia (there are also some North American species).
