Sedum ‘Gooseberry Fool’ has amazing, light green and white flower clusters that stretch up to 20cm across. They open from late summer and should be left standing for winter interest.
The thick, mid green leaves have blushes of red and grow to around 8cm and extend from the solid, red stems.
Good in gardens or pots. Sedums begin to sparkle as the heat of summer subsides; then, their blooms unfurl and remain, changing colours, for many months.
Sedums are the ultimate plant for time poor gardeners that are looking for easy, lasting impact. They are hardy, easy care and look good year round.
The flowers not only look good to gardeners, they are magnets for butterflies, bees and other beneficial insects.
Sedums store water in their leaves so are wonderfully dry tolerant, and perfect for a garden hot spot. They will even thrive in poor soils.
Cut back the old stems in early spring to allow the new spring foliage to shine through.
It has recently been reclassified as Hylotelephium telephium subsp. maximum. Common names include Stonecrop and Ice Plant.
