An easy care good looking plant with great yields. Giant Russian Garlic has a milder flavour than most Garlic's, as it is more closely related to the leek. The flavour is sweet and nutty, with a bit more bite in cold climates. It produces three to six large cloves from impressive 10cm (up to half a kg) bulbs. This garlic has an impressive shelf life, is easy to peel and can be used raw in salads, for roasting, in soups or stews.
One clove supplied per pot, which yields a large bulb next season.
A frost resistant, drought tender bulb with tall, blue green foliage that grows to around a metre high. Organic Giant Russian Garlic, is also known as Elephant Garlic is a lovely robust plant that grows well through most of Australia from Temperate to Tropical and will naturalise well. Early to mid summer a single lilac pink flower will form which is lovely and ornamental, or a great addition to a salad. The leaves are also edible and have a lovely flavour.
Plant your Garlic around the shortest day of the year and you should harvest it on around the longest day. Once harvested dry the bulbs out of direct sunlight until the outer skin is papery. Stored in a cool, dry place, bulbs will last for up to 9 months. It is a good idea to retain a few good sized cloves to replant next season. If you would like to companion plant, combining garlic with roses will help to reduce pests such as aphids on your roses.
