Clivia Belgian Hybrids
A top choice for shade.

Up to 20 brilliant orange flowers adorn the handsome, fanned, evergreen leaves of this Clivia. The vibrant blooms have a softer, golden centre. They are followed by fine-looking, glossy orange seed heads.
Clivias are much loved around the world for their beautiful foliage and impressive flowers. They are recognised as invaluable for their unique ability to add lots of impact to dry, shady areas, which are one of the greatest challenges in gardening.
Clivias generally flower once they are established enough to have grown 12 or so leaves. These plants have three to four leaves at the moment so will take just a couple of years to bloom and can enjoy the nice foliage until then.
Clivias can be frost sensitive but an overhead canopy of trees in their favourite shade position provides ample protection. You can even grow Clivia in pots and they can make good house plants.
Plant in well drained soil, water in and they will become dry tolerant as they establish. Keep out of afternoon sun. In deep shade you may have less flowers. Keep protected from slugs and snails, especially while young. A light application of a general purpose in spring will be appreciated.
