Astelia 'Silver Shadow'
New in 2020.
This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

Gently arching, strappy evergreen leaves with a metallic, silver sheen providing year round appeal. The long, straight foliage adds a nice textural and structural element to the garden. Dry and windy conditions aren’t a problem for this tough, strapping plant. They are also gorgeous in pots as the leaves spill from the sides.
This NZ native is well suited to a wide range of Australian growing conditions, including harsh coastal areas. They really are very easy going and don’t mind if they are in sun or shade. In fact, in NZ they actually grow as epiphytes in trees.
Plant Astelia ‘Silver Shadow’ in moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. A full sun to semi shade position is ideal, they need about six hours sun a day. Divide as required in spring. They are very dry tolerant once established. The female plants can flower, in spring with little yellow blooms, but they are way down in the foliage and quite hidden, the blooms are followed by ornamental, orange berries.
