This plant is really easy to grow and has oodles of things going for it. It is one of those plants that Piet Oudolf and Noel Kingsbury use to great effect.
Rich, red flower panicles sway in the gentlest of breezes creating great movement in the garden. The blooms are really long lasting, opening from mid summer right into autumn. Each spike is 5-8cm long. Persicaria ‘Taurus’ flower heads can be left stand into winter providing a handsome and enduring show. The flowers also pick well.
The foliage will gradually form a nice, dense mat. The leaves are dark green and between 5 and 15cm long. They turn a lovely bronze red in autumn.
Plant in moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. Persicaria ‘Taurus’ looks fabulous in borders, garden beds or ornamental grass or meadow plantings. A nice choice in combination with spring bulbs as they arise just as the bulbs are fading and will shelter them through summer. It doesn’t mind boggy soils so by a pond or in a bog garden is another great spot.
Plant in a full sun to part shade position. Water to establish the only if rainfall is low, they will last better in dry conditions with supplemental water.
