These tumbling stems of plump foliage are totally adorable. The soft green colouring adds a lovely freshness wherever it is grown. They will fill a container to overflowing.
A top choice for hanging baskets or cascading from the edge of a pot. In spring little pink flowers open and often keep on through summer.
SIZE (HxW): 5-20cm x 10-70cm
I SEE THE LIGHT: Bright, indirect light is ideal. In high light the foliage will change. Keep out of the hot afternoon sun lest their leaves be sunburned or roots damaged. In bright light the leaves will develop a red blush.
WATER NEEDS: Water well, then allow the soil to almost dry out before watering again. Keeping them on the drier side will result in better colour. If the plump leaves begin to shrivel it is a cry for help and they need some water. They do their growing in autumn and winter, becoming semi dormant in summer.
I WILL SURVIVE: These plants are so easy, they pretty much look after themselves. In pots ensure you choose a cactus/succulent potting mix for best results as it offers the sharp drainage they need. Choose a pot with drainage holes to ensure they don’t end up sitting in water. You can root the stems by laying them across the soil, you can also take cuttings, give them a couple of days to callous then push into the soil and add water. Repot only as they become overcrowded.
Use a diluted, liquid fertiliser in spring to keep them happy and healthy. They aren’t heavy feeders so will forgive you if you forget.
